Description
One glazed blue-green earthenware model of a well head. Lower part of model comprises box-shaped body with square cross-section and beveled edges tapering slightly to the top. Upper part of model comprises stylised torana with horizontal crossbar and moulded ridged roof.

Provenance
Discovered in a tomb in Wuwei, Gansu. Given by Alley to Owen Jackson (1919-2008) of Friends' Ambulance Unit in China (1945-1947) to present to Canterbury Museum. In 1956, loaned to the Rewi Alley Chinese Art and Crafts Exhibition, held at the Provincial Council Chambers, Christchurch.
