Instrument: prayer wheel

One cylindrical brass Tibetan-style prayer wheel with a spindle emerging from the base. Barrel presents six Tibetan characters moulded in low relief. Barrel top surface exhibits quatrefoil lotus pattern surrounding a central triskelion motif. Barrel underside exhibits eight-fold pattern of stylised flowers and beads surrounding a central triskelion motif.

Gifted by Alley to Canterbury Museum in 1937, during a visit to New Zealand. Made at Wutaishan, Shanxi.
