Bottle: snuff

Description

One glazed blue and white ceramic snuff bottle. A short narrow neck with a beaded rim surmounts an elongated cylindrical body flaring outwards slightly towards a circular base. Neck and base embellished with doubled blue rings. Body presents a continuous botanical design. Base exhibits mark of Qianlong Emperor (1736-1796 AD).

Provenance

Gifted to Canterbury Museum by Alley in 1937 during a visit to New Zealand. In 1956, loaned to the Rewi Alley Chinese Art and Crafts Exhibition, held at the Provincial Council Chambers, Christchurch.
