Provenance
Given to Alley's mother by Song Qingling, and brought to Christchurch by Alley during a visit in 1937. It was left on loan to the Museum following Alley's mother's death in 1952. In 1984, it was returned to Alley, who in turn gave it to Christchurch Mayor Sir Hamish Hay, to pass back to the Museum. Exhibited at the Chinese art and crafts exhibition held at the Provincial Council Chambers, Christchurch, in 1950, which included work done by pupils of the Shandan Bailie School, including prints and a carpet.
