Ivory: sculpture

One creamy-white carved ivory figure of an elephant depicted trumpeting with mouth open and snout raised.

Part of small collection given by Alley to H.M. Sievwright during his visit to Gansu in 1947, delivering Corriedale sheep from New Zealand to the Shandan Bailie School. Gifted by Mrs A. Sievwright, of Timaru, to Canterbury Museum in 1975.
