Pipe: smoking

Description

One gold-hued metallic water pipe holder and accessories. Holder consists of a flattened cylinder with a flat base. Holder sides present inscribed decorations. Holder upper surface exhibits several openings into which are inserted water pipe accessories such as pipe cleaning brush and tweezers on a chain. Holder upper surface also presents a capped opening to water reservoir.

Rewi Alley

Provenance

Gifted to Canterbury Museum by Alley in 1937 during a visit to New Zealand. In 1946, loaned to Hallenstein Brothers Department Store for display. In 1956, loaned to the Rewi Alley Chinese Art and Crafts Exhibition, held at the Provincial Council Chambers, Christchurch.
