Description

One unglazed light tan earthenware roof ridge tile surmounted by a stylised horse with an over-sized head. Incised details of horse's mane and saddle and incised wave patterns where horse's legs join base of tile.

Rewi Alley

Provenance

Given by Alley to Owen Jackson (1919-2008) of the Friends' Ambulance Unit in China (1945-1947) in 1946 to present to Canterbury Museum. From ruined temple near Dunhuang. In 1956, loaned to the Rewi Alley Chinese Art and Crafts Exhibition, held at the Provincial Council Chambers, Christchurch.
