Description
One bronze figurine of the Sino-Tibetan deity figure Dam Can. Outstretched hands are represented performing simhamukha or 'lion face' mudra. Dam Can depicted riding a buffalo upon a base that exhibits stylised wave patterns. Figurine exhibits remains of red and yellow pigmentation.
Provenance
From Shaanxi Province. Gifted by Alley during a visit to New Zealand in 1937. Loaned to the Rewi Alley Chinese Art and Crafts Exhibition, held at the Provincial Council Chambers, Christchurch, in 1956.
