"...It's a meter long, pottery model of a camel train travelling the fabled silk road and depicts ten laden camels with seven riders and attendants including a musician. In the style of a T'ang Dynasty original, this piece reproduces the freely modeled forms and three colour glazes of this high point of Chinese culture when contact between East and West stimulated artistic development." Art No. PT023 Camel train, camels and attendants moving along the silk road, length: 1m, presented to the museum 17 May 1985 when the good-will delegation from the northern province of Gansu in the PRC visited Christchurch, piece had been sent by Alley. The piece is a modern concept, based on old tales and art forms, made in the "three colour" style of Tang, when such "San Tsai" wares were made in Gung Xian in Henan, not far from Louyang Period Chinese dynastic period.
